Curds for Kids Local kids in Trempealeau and Clark Counties are hungry and in need of healthy food. Local farmers are dumping milk because there has been a loss of markets due to COVID-19. Based on these two facts, two members of Peace Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls, Beth Stay and Jackie Goplin, have formed Curds for Kids. Curds For Kids organizes money donations to then purchase cheese curds and assists in distribution to families through the school nutrition programs. All contributions go directly to the purchase of cheese curds. Students in our local school district are recipients of the curds as are all the students in Trempealeau County.
Checks to support this mission can be mailed to Feed My People and put “Curds for Kids Trempealeau ” in the memo line. Mail to Feed My People Food Bank, 2610 Alpine Rd, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
Volunteers are also needed to pick up cheese curds in Whitehall and transport to the high school in Galesville on Tuesday afternoons. The boxes are 10 pounds each and assistance is given for loading in to the vehicle. To volunteer for a Tuesday call 715-533-2363 (Jackie) or email email@example.com.
It is anticipated that this program will continue through the summer with local summer food programs should funding be adequate.
